What makes a good ride leader?

A. Experience: Ride leaders should have significant Mountain biking experience as well as leadership experience. They should be familiar with Mountain biking terminology and safety, as well general practices.  Rider leaders must also be in good physical shape.

B. Knowledge: Ride leaders should have some to significant knowledge of bike mechanics and maintenance.  While Bohdi will provide training for bike repair, the more knowledge a leader has in this field the better.

C. Leadership: Bohdi has to make sure that the people that represent us are responsible, qualified and able.  Ride leaders must be prepared to be leaders, to escort groups, deal with problems, and know how to handle a variety of situations.

Thing you’ve got what it takes?  Bohdi will provide a significant amount of training and experience for those people who wish to become leaders.  We’ll make sure you know the trails by heart and are ready for whatever comes your way.  Just remember you must bring enthusiasm and some ability to the table.

Qualities Bohdi is looking for:
A.    Leadership experience
B.    Bike shop or mechanic experience
C.    Multi lingual leaders
D.    Locally knowledgeable
E.    Significant mountain biking experience
F.    Significant amount of available free time, particularly weekends
G.    Requirement: Leaders must be available for at least three months and be able to lead rides at least once every three weekends.

Responsibilities:
A ride leader’s job is to essentially lead a ride.  What that means is that on our guided tour of the Chinese country side we typically have one to two leaders with a group or somewhere between four to fourteen riders.  In the beginning the leader’s job is to organize the group, help pack and unpack and prepare all the bikes, and answer any question the riders might have.  Once the ride starts the leader will lead the group on a prearranged path, with the possibility for some improvisation, and keep the group together.  The leader will also have to deal with any mechanical problems such as flat tires, gear and brake issues, as well as any accidents or medical attention people may need.  When the ride ends, the leader must make sure everyone is okay, that the bikes are all in good shape, and then help pack them up to return home.  All the while the leader is the one in charge and is responsible for whatever may happen.

Ride leaders should ride with Bohdi because they love to mountain bike and want to do so as much as possible.  By being a ride leader with Bohdi, we’ll get you ready to go and provide you with weekly opportunities to make money or ride as steeply discounted rates.  By signing up and training with Bohdi you’ll be getting the access and opportunity to ride as often as you like.  You’ll also get the opportunity to develop your own rides and routes, as well as play a key role when Bohdi goes on special unique events.  This is a great way to join the Bohdi team for people who love to ride.

Training: What Bohdi needs you to do before you can be a Leader.
A.    Attend one to two minimum bicycle repair lessons (all training is free).  These include the public “Quick and Dirty Bike Mechanics Training Course” as well as private Leader only bikes repair lessons.  Leaders must be able to do the following:
        1. Fix flat tires (patch or replace)
        2. Brake and seat adjustments
        3. Gear adjustments
        4. General Knowledge of bike mechanic.
B. Attend rides: If a leader wishes to be the primary leader on a ride, he or she must know it by heart and have attended the ride at least twice with Bohdi.
C. Demonstrate know how and enthusiasm, as well as the ability to lead groups.
